Press Release Update: Assault with Intent to Murder

UPDATED INFORMATION: FRIDAY 11-16-2012

On Thursday 11-15-2012 at 4:15 PM, motorist reported an individual walking along M-53 north of Bowers Road (Goodland Twp- Lapeer County) that fit the description of CAREY. Deputies established contact and confirmed the individual was CAREY. CAREY was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Lapeer County Jail.

The 24 year old victim’s condition is improving and was successfully removed from life support.

Press Release: Assault with Intent to Murder

Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin Reports:

On Sunday 11-11-2012 at 5:12 PM,   Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Marlette Regional Medical Center in Marlette reference an assault.   The assault occurred on Marlette Road in Silverwood (Rich Township-Lapeer County).

The information is that JESSE JAMES CAREY age 24 from Mayville placed a tree across Marlette Road near Maple Grove Road.   CAREY’S former girlfriend age 23 from Fostoria was with current boyfriend who is 24 years old from Silverwood.   When the couple stopped their vehicle to move the tree, CAREY ambushed the current boyfriend striking him multiples times with an object.   Following the attack, CAREY fled on foot.   After extensive efforts, CAREY was not immediately located.

The assault victim was transferred from Marlette Region Medical Center to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw.  As of 11-13-2012, the victim remains on life support.

CAREY is believed to be within the Mayville or Marlette area.  A criminal arrest warrant for assault with intent to murder (felony punishable by life or any numbers of years) was issued on 11-13-2012.

In addition, there are active arrest warrants for CAREY out of the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office for resisting and obstructing and Michigan State Police Lapeer Regional Post for assault harm less than murder.

Press Release: Arrest in Marie Warren Murder Case

Today, July 15. 2011 at 9:30am Frank William Choate was arraigned in Lapeer County 71st District Court on the following charges:

  • Home invasion of the home of Marie Warren – 20 years
  • Weapons concealment – 5 years
  • Stolen property – 5 years
  • Obstruction of justice – 5 years
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon – 5 years
  • Felony firearm – 2 years
  • Habitual offender (4th) – up to life
