Lapeer County Sheriffs Deputy William Osborne arrived at 10:58 AM. A fire erupted within the occupied passenger car and unoccupied semi tractor. The fierce fire could not be contained by Deputy Osborne and Imlay City Police Officer Joe Deluca prior to Imlay City Fire and Rescue arriving. The driver and lone occupant of the passenger vehicle ERIC EASTERLING was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Upon reentering the traveled portion of the roadway, EASTERLING lost control and his vehicle entered a counter-clockwise rotation.

EASTERLING’S vehicle crossed the centerline into the south bound lane in front of a 1999 Volvo Semi operated by RONALD HAAG age 53 from Minden City. The collision was broadside with the front of the semi contacting the passenger side of the car. Vehicles remained attached and entered the west side ditch coming to rest. HAAG exited his tractor before the fire erupted. HAGG was not injured and declined medical treatment.

The Lapeer County Sheriff s Office was assisted at the scene by Imlay City Police Department, Michigan State Police Troopers and Motor Carriers, Goodland Township Fire, Imlay City Fire and Rescue, and Young’s Environmental Service. Van Dyke was reopened for normal vehicular traffic around 2:30 PM.
