Press Release: Endangered Missing Found Deceased

Lapeer County SheriffOn Friday 03-01-2013 at 6:16 PM, Lapeer County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a residence located on a private drive off Diehl Road in Metamora (Hadley Township) for a missing 13 year old.The 13 year old (name being withheld) departed his residence between approximately 4:15 PM and 5:25 PM traveling by foot. There were circumstances that supported the individual was endangered and a firearm from the residence was unaccounted for. The residence is surrounded by woods, fields, and land owned by the State of Michigan (game area). An extensive search of the area was performed during the evening hours (after dark) on Friday 03-01-2013. Lapeer County Deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police Troopers (Lapeer Post), Michigan State Police CanineTeam, and the Oakland County Sheriffs Aviation Division. Around midnight, search efforts were temporarily suspended until morning.The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was notified. Arrangements were established to resume on Saturday 03-02-2013 at 8 AM.

On Saturday 03-02-2013 at 8 AM, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Flint Field Office) and Oakland County Sheriffs Office Aviation Division joined Lapeer County Sheriffs Deputies. The Lapeer County Sheriffs Mounted Division searched using horses. Ray C’s Cycles in Lapeer provided quad runners to aid with the ground search. Michigan Search and Rescue was responding with numerous canine teams.

Around 9:08 AM, the search came to an end when the missing was discovered deceased of a self inflicted gun shot wound in a wooded ravine within close distance to their residence.

This case remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff s Office.

Serious Injury Traffic Crash

On Friday 10-26-2012 at 7:02 PM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a serious injury traffic crash on Hunters Creek Road to the west of Fairgrounds Road in Imlay City (Imlay Township).

KELLY CUSSON age 38 from Imlay City was traveling east on Hunters Creek Road driving a 2000 Ford Explorer. KELLY CUSSON’S vehicle lost control and entered a clock-wise rotation while departing the south side of the roadway. The vehicle impacted a tree near the driver’s side door.

Imlay City Fire Department and Almont Fire Department utilizing extrication tools freed KELLY CUSSON from her vehicle. KELLY CUSSON was transported from the scene by Flight Care Medical helicopter to Hurley Medical Center in Flint. KELLY CUSSON is listed in serious/critical condition.

KELLY CUSSON’S 10 year old daughter MEGENA CUSSON from Imlay City was a front seat passenger. MEGENA CUSSON was transported by Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service to McLaren- Lapeer Region with non-life threatening injuries.

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Imlay City Police Department, Imlay City Fire and Rescue, Almont Fire Department,and Paul’s Collision/Towing in Almont.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours for rescue and investigative purposes. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this traffic crash that remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
