Press Release: Home Invasion, Imlay Township

Lapeer County Sheriff EmblemOn Friday 12-18-2015 at 1:44 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on Imlay City Road in Imlay City (Imlay Township) for a home invasion that just occurred.

Deputies interviewed a 27 year old female from Imlay City and a 19 year old male from Imlay City who stated that DONALD SMITH age 27 from Imlay City broke into their residence while they were sleeping and a physical fight resulted.  SMITH had a prior dating relationship with the female.

It is alleged that SMITH visited the residence (does not live at this residence) and gained entry through a window after removing the screen. Once inside the residence, SMITH dosed them with pepper spray which woke them up.   SMITH grabbed the female wrists and dragged her along the floor. The 19 year old male became orientated after the pepper spray wore off and engaged in a physical altercation with SMITH. SMITH eventually fled the premises. Neither of the victims required medical treatment.

Deputies located SMITH at his residence about a half mile away. SMITH was taken into custody and lodged at the Lapeer County Jail.

On Friday 12-18-2015, SMITH was formally charged and arraigned in the 71-A District Court of Lapeer on the following criminal charges.

  • Home Invasion 1st degree
  • Two counts of assault and battery.

SMITH was released from the Lapeer County Jail on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond with a no contact order issued.
