Press Release: Serious injury traffic crash (Elba Township)

Lapeer County Sheriff EmblemOn Monday 12-07-2015 at 6:20 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of Hadley and Stewart Road in Lapeer (Elba Township) for an injury traffic crash.

A 17 year old male from Lapeer was the driver and lone occupant of a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle was traveling north on Hadley Road. Hadley Road stops at the Stewart Road intersection and resumes at another point (off set). The intersection is illuminated with street lighting with Hadley Road traffic governed by a stop sign. The driver disregarded the stop sign and subsequently departed the north side of the intersection. The vehicle struck a tree on the driver’s side front. The driver (wearing seat belt with airbag deployment) was extricated from the vehicle by Elba Township and Hadley Township Fire Departments. The driver was transported and remains hospitalized at McLaren- Lapeer with life threatening injuries.

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police Lapeer Post, Elba Township Fire Department, and Hadley Township Fire Department.

Dense fog significantly reduced visibility. The foggy conditions is considered a contributing
factor with the crash remaining under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
