LOCATION:             1400 block of N. Van Dyke Rd, Goodland Township – Lapeer County

SUSPECT                38 year old male- Imlay City, MI


On Friday September 26, 2014 at 02:56 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reported suicidal individual within the 1400 block of N Van Dyke Rd in Imlay City (Goodland Township). It was reported that the individual relayed suicidal tendencies to another party while alone within his residence. Further information was that the individual potentially might have shot himself.

This situation quickly transitioned into shots fired by the individual after deputies were on the premise. The individual exited the residence accessing the roof and discharged his hand gun numerous times. No shots were fired from officers that were positioned on a perimeter surrounding the house while the individual fired his weapon. There were no officers injured during the event.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office SRT (Special Response Team) responded. Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to communicate with the individual and facilitate a peaceful and event-less surrender within an hour of the original call. The individual sustained one self inflicted gun shot to his leg (non-life threatening injury). Lapeer County EMS transported the individual to receive medical treatment.  The individual remains hospitalized.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office is pleased that this event was resolved successfully and quickly.   There were no law enforcement officers injured and the individual sustained only a self inflicted non-life threatening injury during this dangerous event.

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Imlay City Police Department, Almont Police Department, Dryden Police Department, Michigan State Police, Goodland Township Fire Department, and Lapeer County EMS.

This event remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office and will be presented to the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office once completed.
