Press Release: Bank Robbery, Elba Township

Sheriffs LogoOn Thursday 03-13-2014 at 2:52 PM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a bank robbery at the Lapeer County Bank and Trust (Elba Branch) in Lapeer.

A lone individual entered the financial institution wearing a black ski mask and white painter style suit. A weapon was displayed in this robbery. There were no customers and only employees within the building. No injuries occurred during the event.

The individual fled the financial institution with an undisclosed amount of cash. The individual traveled north operating a snowmobile.

The snowmobile was located in a rural area about four miles from the financial institution. The snowmobile was reported stolen earlier today in Davison (Genesee County). A person of interest was developed in the stolen snowmobile investigation.

Around 5:07 PM, the person of interest relating to the stolen snowmobile was located by Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies in Davison (Richfield Township). The male individual from Richfield Township was eventually taken into custody and lodged in the Lapeer County Jail relating to the Lapeer County Bank and Trust robbery.

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the following agencies; Michigan State Police (Lapeer and Flint Post); Federal Bureau of Investigation (Flint Field Office); Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (Flint Field Office); Richfield Township Police Department; and Davison Township Police Department.

Lapeer County Prosecutor Tim Turkelson will be presented the case with formal charges anticipated on Friday 03-14-2014. This case remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
