Press Release: Serious Injury Traffic Crash

Sheriffs LogoOn Monday 02-10-2014 at 5:02 PM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an injury traffic crash on Slattery Road south of Hasslick Road in North Branch involving a pick up truck and an 8 year old riding on a snow sled.

Wayne Bruman age 47 from North Branch was driving a 1997 Ford pick up truck south on Slattery Road.   Bruman crested a hill and discovered a quad runner towing two children (on two separate snow sleds) within the roadway.    Despite evasive action attempts, Bruman struck the quad runner and James McNees age 8 from North Branch who was riding on a snow sled.

The 15 year old operating the quad runner and another 10 year old riding on a snow sled were not injured.  The 15 year old, 10 year old, and 8 year old are related.   James McNees was transported to McLaren- Lapeer Region and listed in serious condition with life threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours for rescue and investigative purposes.  Neither alcohol nor excess speeds are considered factors.
