Press Release: Traffic Crash Involving a Train

On Friday 01-17-2014 at 7:30 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Lake Nepessing Road in Lapeer for a non-injury traffic crash involving a passenger vehicle and a train.

A 49 year old female from Lapeer was driving a Ford Escape north on Lake Nepessing Road. The properly operating railroad crossing arms were lowered for a westbound train. The driver stated to deputies that they did not observe the train due to driving too fast and being distracted.

The driver crossed the center line entering the south bound lane striking the side of the train. After impact, the vehicle came to rest within the west ditch.

There are no injuries associated with this traffic crash. Deputies cited the driver.
