On Friday 10-11-2013 at 11:47 PM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an injury traffic crash involving a pedestrian on Saginaw Street to the south of Davis Lake Road in Lapeer (Mayfield Township- Lapeer County).

Two women (ages 41 and 56) from Lapeer were walking south on Saginaw Street. The pedestrians were walking near the west edge of the roadway. It was dark with no street lighting available.

Both pedestrians were struck by a Sonoma pick up truck that was traveling south on Saginaw Street driven by a 17 year old from Attica. The operator of the pick up truck did not stop.

The 41 year old pedestrian was transported to McLaren- Lapeer Region for non-life threatening injuries. The 56 year old pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the pick up truck returned to the crash site about an hour later with their parents. The driver after the collision traveled to a family member’s residence that was near the crash site.

The investigation is on-going to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor. The roadway was closed for about three hours for investigative purposes.
