Commercial Burglary cleared by Arrest

On Wednesday 05-30-2012 at 2:08 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an alarm at the Whistle Stop Party Store in North Branch. Deputies discovered the glass within the front door smashed. The building was checked with nobody located within.

The store’s video captured the solo intruder entering the building with his head and face concealed by what appeared to be a mask. The individual stole cigarettes and liquor from behind the counter. Back packs were used to remove the stolen items from the store. The individual fled on foot.

Around mid-morning during normal business hours, a frequent customer entered the store and made a purchase. This customer resided in the immediate area. An employee noticed that the customer was wearing similar clothing articles and fit the physical description.

Around 2:00 PM, North Branch Police Department Officers and Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with the individual at a park in North Branch. The individual was arrest without incident and stolen property was recovered.

A 19 year old from North Branch was lodged in the Lapeer County Jail. The Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office will be presented the case reference the issuance of criminal charges. Name of the individual is being withheld pending the issuance of criminal charges and arraignment.
